About Dell

Idell (Dell) was born and raised in Michigan.  She fell in love with the folk music of the 60’s and gravitated to Peter Paul and Mary, Joan Baez, Simon & Garfunkle and Bob Dylan. Self-taught guitar from the age of 16, Dell began writing her own music in the late 1990’s. In the mid 1990’s Dell formed a trio, “Dell and the Roughcuts,” whose music was tagged as Folksy, Rocksy, Bluesy and continued for about 5 years.  Prior to moving to Florida in March 2013, Idell was part of a duo, “Tangled Sisters,” with her best friend Kathy.  Idell is hoping to move back to Michigan in the not too distant future.

Dell asked some of her peers to help her define her music and here is what some of them said.

“Dell Smith’s strong, soulful voice invites you into her vast experience as a songwriter and as a woman. Her poetic lyrics paint the landscape where her rich musical styles grow, twist and turn leaving me as a listener comforted and intrigued.” -Beverly Meyer, The Music Lady.

“Her music is experiential, pulling the listener into her world with poetic beauty and captivating performance, Idell Smith is definitely worth discovering and sharing… or folk, yeah, definitely folk” -Stuart Benbow, Singer Songwriter.

" Idell Smith is certainly a singer/songwriter. But she is more of a lyricist and poet than anything else. Listen; these songs are worth it." -Tom Saunders, A3 Radio.

“Idell Smith is a soulful songstress. Her seamless melodies and timeless lyrics capture the listener from first note to final chord… And she sounds damn good when a certain cellist accompanies her and adds an occasional harmony!" -Kathy Kitzmann, Idell’s best friend and other half of “Tangled Sisters”.
